Sporran 2003
copper, brass, velvet, hematite. 10"
long.
The "sporran", a part of
Scottish formal dress, is a small pouch worn on the front of the kilt
to contain keys, change, and such. By reinterpreting this traditional
form, I want to invite inquiry into the motives and aesthetics of the
past, in a fanciful and useful object. Hopefully its functionality,
beauty , and sense of visual interest will cause this sporran to
continue its travels after it leaves my hand, and
it will in the future cause a similar inquiry into the morals and
aesthetics of today.
